The memorial is affixed to an interior wall of the church. It is constructed from light coloured wood and the text is hand painted:

There is a brass plate affixed to the wall immediately to the left as you enter the main door:

The memorial is located on the A456
The memorial is in a very small fenced off are and is constructed from stone
and consists of a cross(with a cross of sacrifice thereon) atop a column set
in an octagonal block set on top of 2 octagonal steps.
In the last couple of years the memorial has been renovated and the faces
bearing the inscriptions have been covered with stone tablets with the
inscriptions highlighted in silver

Sergeant | Charles Henry SMITH | Distinguished Conduct Medal3rd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment 13323 kia F&F Wednesday 8th August 1918. Battalion formed part of the 57th Brigade, part of the 19th Division. DCM award listed in the London Gazzette of 3/9/18 (0137/5326). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When two successive patrols had been forced to evacuate a farm, he volunteered to go out and burn down the farm. He did this successfully under heavy enemy fire, and thereby prevented the enemy from occupying a most important position. Steenwerck, 12/4/18. Aged 28 years. Of Far Forest. The son of Mr and Mrs Charles Smith, he had been in the Army for four years. His elder brother Thomas was killed in action in June 1918. Three other brothers, Charles in Mesopotamia, William and Herbert in Salonica were serving with the colours. Chocques Military Cemetery. IV.D.17 |
