11 November 1900 – Memorial service at Wyre church for Corporal Hodgetts,
Yeoman, who died in South Africa, from enteric fever

1 January 1901 – Mr A.J. Hands, Wyre, departed for South Africa as a member
of General Baden Powell’s South African Police

3 July 1901 – Death of Corporal A.J.Hands of the 8th regiment S. African Constabulary

1903 Pershore almanac:

28 September 1902 – At Wyre Church a brass tablet was dedicated in memory of
Corporal Hodgetts and Corporal Hands, who volunteered for South Africa, and
died there.
