Gloucestershire | Toddington | War Memorial
| Toddington War memorial Ordnance Survey reference: SP 048324 |

The picture is taken from a pre-WW II postcard: the memorial was a brilliant white when first erected, but has now weathered to grey.
On the memorial column it reads:
|
TO ENGLANDS HEROES 1914 – 1919 |
On the base, it reads:
|
THEIR SHRINES STAND ON EVERY HIGHWAY WHOSE LAMPS OF REMEMBRANCE ABIDE FED WITH LOVE FROM THE HEART-SPRINGS OF ENGLAND AND LIT FROM THE TORCH OF HER PRIDE |

According to the CWGC records, Alwyn Green has no known grave. He
is listed on the Arras memorial in France. Percival Arthur Green,
Rifleman R/14360 in the 1st Battalion King’s Rifle Corps, is buried in the
Frankfurt Trench British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel, on the Somme. Percival
was the son of Mrs W. Green of 37, Newtown, Winchcombe, Glos, and married to
Mrs. L.W. Green of 8, Midland House, Llansamlet, Swansea. From their
juxtaposition on this memorial, it seems likely that they were brothers.
Note there is some discrepancy with the Debt of Honour register: Percy is
listed there as having died on the 14th November 1916.
