Worcestershire | Earl’s Croome & Hill Croome | War Memorial
War Memorial Stolen Earl’s Croome Ordnance Survey reference: SO 870420 |
On the night of August 21/22nd 2002, the Earl’s Croome war memorial was stolen. The wooden cross and bronze figure of Christ was pushed over, and a stainless steel retaining rod cut; onlly the stone base was left. The bronze figure was in fact a fibreglass/resin replica of the original; the memorial had been damaged by a road accident in 1999, and when the base was rebuilt and the wooden cross replaced, a replica of the original figure had been made. The reconstruction had only been completed in April of 2001. Needless to say, the parish council would be very interested in recovering the memorial. News report: Malvern Gazette, August 30 2002. Opposite is a detail of the figure on the memorial (photographed June 2001) For a view of the full memorial, see the Memorial Listing page |
