this is a pillar in the market square, at its top, a statue of St George
slaying the Dragon. The memorial was designed by Sir Guy Dawber. It was
unveiled by the second Baron Redesdale of Batsford Park, on 26th March 1921
On the octagonal base are these inscriptions:
