St John Baptist, Claines Ordnance Survey reference: SO 851588 War Memorial |
This is an octagonal grey stone base with a cross on top. The original
inscriptions for the 1914-1918 war dead ran round on all eight faces,
and the 1939-1945 inscriptions were added later below the previous ones.
Fortunately, they are easily distinguished, the later inscriptions being
more deeply incised and in a slightly different font. For clarity, I have
separated out the two runs of inscriptions, and also sorted the later set
into alphabetic order.
