St Andrew’s, Barnt Green Ordnance Survey reference: SP 009736 War Memorial

The memorial used to be on the front wall of the church in Sandhills Road: the memorial consisted of a crucifix with a staute of a soldier to the left
and a sailor to the right above two metal plaques with the following
inscriptions :

WW I

1914+REMEMBER+1918
ALBERT BRADBURY   ARTHUR JEYNES
JOSEPH Hy.CAPENER   JOHN MCCARTHY
SAMUEL CALLIMORE   HORACE C MERRICK
PERCY STEVENS
MAY THEY REST IN PEACE

And WW II:

1939+1945
DENNIS ALFORD   HARRY BUSBY
PERCY BULL   REGINALD DODD
RICHARD GANDY

The original details were for the memorial as it was in 1999. E.M. Buckett has emailed me (May 2002) with details of alterations since then:

St Andrews Barnt Green War Memorial plaque was removed from the church wall when major work was carried out on the church. A new free standing war memorial has been built in the shape of a semicircular wall with a bench seat on the inside, ‘concave’ side. The plaque and figures have been built into the outside ‘convex’ side, of the war memorial, which stands in the grounds at the front of St Andrew’s Church.
