Stanton Ordnance Survey reference: SP 068343 War Memorial |
This is a bronze plaque in a wall by the roadside:
Pray for the men of Stanton who
gave their lives in the Great War
A.D. 1914-1919 To whose memory the
Village has dedicated the new cross.

Just up the road is an old, rather eroded cross. In the churchyard is a
newer cross on an octagonal stone base. Two sides bear the inscriptions:
Lest We Forget
AD 1914-1918
This is presumably the “new cross” referred to on the memorial plaque.
